Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – Riyadh – 17 December 2018: A number of flynas employees and their children visited the Food Charity Association “Etaam” at its headquarters in Riyadh, as part of its social responsibility programs, and coinciding with the International Volunteer Month, where they were briefed during the visit on the mechanism used by the association in collecting, packaging and distributing food to beneficiaries according to the latest technologies used.
For his part, Ahmed Al-Musaind, General Manager of Corporate Communications and Spokesperson for flynas, stressed the keenness of the national carrier of Saudi Arabia to play its role in social responsibility, stressing that this initiative came to activate the role of social responsibility that flynas pays great attention to, and also contributes to activating the role of the private sector in society.
He added: “Volunteer work is a key pillar in building society and is considered one of the most important factors affecting the formation of the new generation, as it stimulates engagement in humanitarian work, and benefiting from young energies and developing them to serve the community.”
Al-Musaind expressed his appreciation for the important role played by “Etaam” in the field of preserving grace and doing good, stressing the importance of focusing on the aspect of nutrition education and reducing food waste, saying that our contribution with “Etaam” stems from our duty to participate towards preserving grace and spreading awareness of the culture of preserving food and reducing its waste, as well as spreading the spirit of volunteer work.
It is noteworthy that many excess foods end up in landfill, but the launch of such initiatives may contribute to reducing private waste in food, as the rate of waste in it reaches 30% of the total food in the Kingdom, according to “Etaam”, and the volume of food wasted per capita in the Kingdom annually is estimated at 250 kilograms, which is the highest in the world, and this exceeds double the global average, which is 115 kilograms per capita, and the total food waste in the Kingdom according to The report reports about 8.3 million tons of food each year.
