MEED And Mashreq Bank Celebrate A Decade Of Recognizing Project Excellence In The Region

MEEDhas announced the launch of its long-running initiative to recognize and award the region’s best and most dynamic projects. The MEED Projects Awards 2021 in association with Mashreq invites organizations from across the MENA region to submit their best projects completed in 2020 and 2021 and gain recognition for their efforts.

The MENA region is home to one of the most dynamic project markets around the world, with more than 2,301 projects with a combined value of $243bn completed across the region since January 2020.Project owners, contractors and consultants can submit their nominations by 19 August 2021, and regional winners will be announced at an awards reception held on December 16, 2021.

Launched in 2010, the MEED Projects Awards are the leading benchmark of quality in the region’s projects industry. In 2020, Mediclinic Parkview Hospital was awarded Healthcare Project of the Year, with judges commending how sustainability was a priority in the design of the hospital. Ismailia Road Tunnels, the largest tunnel in the Middle East, was awarded 2020’s International Project of the Year, as judges praised the project for its innovative approach to achieve a rapid schedule and completion in only 5 years. Mohammed Bin Rashid Library, The Address Sky View Project, CLYMB Abu Dhabi and Noor Abu Dhabi Solar Plant, were amongst the other previous winners.

The independently judged MEED Projects Awards aim to support best practice in the regional projects industry. The awards recognise the value and quality of a project throughout its entire life cycle from the design concept through to engineering and construction and its wider contribution to society and to the environment.

“Ten years ago, MEED launched its annual awards recognising the region’s best projects,” says MEED editorial director Richard Thompson. “At the time, we saw the projects being built across the region as the foundation stones of this region’s future success. Our mission was to support that success by celebrating best practice in the region’s projects industry. Today, as the world starts its recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, that mission is more critical than ever. But our success factors are changing.”

“As well as excellence in architecture, engineering and project delivery, success today is about sustainability and the need to limit the effects of climate change in the future by reducing carbon dioxide emissions,” says Thompson. “The most successful projects today will reflect the best environmental, societal and governance (ESG) criteria. They will promote sustainable development by harnessing clean energy, reducing waste and promoting a circular economy. And they will showcase the benefits of collaboration and innovation in delivering projects on time, on budget and safely.”

“Whether you are working in renewables, oil &gas, technology, water, or construction, winning a MEED Projects Award 2021, or being shortlisted for an award, is an achievement that marks your company as one that is contributing to the future success of this region, and in the sustainability of our planet,” says Thompson. “I encourage everyone involved in the regional project industry to get involved in the awards, and I look forward to hearing all of your success stories. Good luck to all of you.”

Arun Mathur, Senior Vice President, Mashreq Bank, said: “We are pleased to continue working with MEED to recognize the innovative projects that are supporting the development of the region, while creating positive social, community and environmental impacts. With groundbreaking mega projects and major infrastructure development plans picking up pace to realise the region’s future economic vision, we are positive about the outlook for GCC’s construction sector. We look forward to recognizing some great projects for the 2021 edition of the MEED Projects Awards in association with Mashreq and set a powerful precedent for construction companies to adopt a more ambitious and dynamic approach. ”
