“Saudi Electricity” Signs a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Vegetation Development Center to Plant 5 Million Trees
Saudi Electricity Company and the Vegetation Development and Desertification Control National Center in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia signed a memorandum of understanding on the cooperation of the environmental protection, development and sustainability field.
This occurred during their participation in the events of the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP28, this memorandum is aimed to establish a framework in the enhancement of the cooperation and integration between the two parties in the interests of vegetation development, desertification control and coordination for the implementation of projects to cultivate 5 million trees/shrubs locally, rehabilitate and develop natural vegetation and support biodiversity in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the use of renewable water sources, in order to enhance the joint efforts of the environmental protection and the development and preservation of vegetation cover field in order to contribute in achieving 2030 vision.
This memorandum, was signed on behalf of the Saudi Electricity Company, by the Senior Vice President of Occupational Health, Safety, Security and Environment, Eng. Sultan Al-Mahasheer, and Dr. Khalid Al-Abdulqader, CEO of the Vegetation Development and Desertification National Center.
Eng. Sultan Al Mahasheer confirmed the company’s pride in its firm commitment to both of the environmental conservation and sustainability through the Renewable Water Sources Afforestation Project Agreement to rehabilitate and develop natural vegetation and support biodiversity in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
He also added “We recognize the vital role of vegetation in mitigating climate change and preserving our planet’s health. Our commitment to create a green and more sustainable future for succeeding generations. “
This memorandum is a part of joint aspirations and efforts framework in the purpose of creating an effective partnership between the two parties which will contribute to the rehabilitation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s vegetation, natural cover, combat and reduce the effects of desertification.
